Armed Forces Day Celebration Ends On A Happy Note In Etinan Local Government Area

History was made in Etinan Local Government Area during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration as the Chairman of Council, Honourable Uko Umoh donated N1M (One Million Naira only) to members of Nigerian Legion in the area.

The wife of the Chairman, Mrs Emily Uko Umoh also donated colourful wrappers to members of Retired Army Wives Association, Etinan Branch.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration took place at the Council’s cenotaph and was attended by dignitaries including the Vice Chairman, Hon Imaobong Michael, Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon Ekerete Umoh and all the councilors, Head of Local Government Service, Mrs Mercy Ntekim and Directors, the Secretary of Etinan Local Government Council, Hon Idorenyin Udo, Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Pastor Ubong Inyang, Paramount Ruler of Etinan, His Majesty, Edidem Aniefiok Monday Akpanobong as well as political leaders.

Speaking on the Chairman’s gesture, Mrs Josephine Essien of Retired Army Wives Association, Etinan Branch, expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Chairman for doing what has never been done in the history of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Etinan Local Government Area.

Mrs Essien also appreciated the First Lady of Etinan, Mrs Emily Uko Umoh, for being a mother in deed by donating wrappers to wives of legionaries saying, this is the first time in history in the celebration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Etinan Local Government Area.

“We are grateful to the first family in Etinan Local Government Area. This is the first time we are receiving such a huge donation and gift from the Council.”

Earlier in his address, the chairman of Nigeria Legion, Etinan, Captain Michael Ukpong Rtd had called on all not to be satisfied with the laying of wreath at the cenotaph in memory of the fallen heroes but also contribute in cash and kind towards the upkeep of the disabled and dependents of fallen heroes.

The Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Hon Uko Umoh, in his address assured that the Council will continue to pay attention to the welfare of her senior citizens especially those who were selfless and outstanding in their services to our fatherland.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration featured inspection of Guard of Honour by the Chairman, March Past by members of the Nigerian Legion, a minute silence in honour of departed soldiers and 21 gun salutes.
