A socio-cultural organisation in the state, Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio Etinan Chapter, has thrown its weight behind the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area,Hon Uko Umoh, in his drive to bring development closer to the people.
At a Courtesy Visit on the chairman in his office, the foremost Ibibio cultural organisation urged the chairman to remain focus in his effort to bring back the glory of Etinan Local Government Area.
In a written address presented to the Council’s Chairman by the Chapter Chairman of the organisation, Akparawa Iboro Matthew, the organisation urged the Chairman to continue in his good works notwithstanding the distractions from our own brothers.
“We appreciate all your achievement in developing Etinan this far from when you entered as Transition Chairman and subsequent sworn in as Executive Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area.
“Sir, we solicit your continuous good works despite unnecessary distraction from some of our brothers , for God will surely bless and keep you throughout your tenure and beyond”
The organisation also drew the attention of the chairman to the continuous absence of a financial institution in the local government saying, it has caused a serious set back on the economic activities in the local government area.
Also speaking, Akparawa Ikpong Essien Udom said as a person, he was not surprised at the level of achievement recorded by the chairman in the last three months in office.
He went down memory lane to recall that the socio cultural organisation which was formed in 1987 with 12 members with an Etinan son as one of the 12 has produced three International Presidents for the organisation who are of Etinan origin.
Akparawa Essien joined his voice in soliciting the support of the council in building a befitting Secretariat for the organisation in Etinan Local Government Area.
Akparawa (Dr) Aniefon Akpabio also added his voice in congratulating the chairman for the feat so far achieved and urged him to remain focus despite the challenges and distraction that may come to him along the way.
Those who also spoke at the meeting include Akparawa Celestine Akpan, Akparawa Udeme Udofia, Akparawawan Arit Akpan who all extolled the pragmatic leadership witnessed in Etinan Local Government Area under the leadership of Hon Uko Umoh.
Responding, the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Hon Uko Umoh thanked members for the unity which has sustained the organisation over the years.
He gave the assurance that before the end of his first term in office, banks will be struggling for a place to establish a branch in the local government area.
Hon Uko Umoh also assured members of the organisation that the team work which has put the local government ahead of others in terms of development will be sustained for the good of the people.
“We work here as a team, the glory goes to all of us. We hit the ground running because we had laid the foundation during our transition period. We will open up the area and people will be chosing Etinan as their preferred destination for business investment and a permanent home.
“Our administration will touch the 64 villages in Etinan as we intend to commission projects every month. There is no way we will open up the local government for investors that banks will not come to do business. I am very optimistic that we will make Etinan a destination of choice in Akwa Ibom state”
