The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azara fsi, has called for the adoption of Alternative Dispute Resolution in conflict management and resolution.
He stated this during a courtesy call on the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Honourable Uko Umoh, in his office as part of activities during his familiarization tour of Etinan Division.
According to him, it is not everything that should end in arrest and detention as many issues can be resolved on a round table where parties involved can iron out issues especially the minor ones.
“There is no issue when brought to the table that cannot be resolved. Explore dialogue as an alternative so as not to breed animosity among brothers” he declared.
The state Police boss also called for collaboration among sister security agencies in Etinan as there is no trophy to be won by a particular security agency when there is peace and security in Etinan.
“We must work together to achieve the same purpose which is security. Both NSCDC, Army, SSS, NDLEA, Immigration must work together to produce the result”.
CP Baba Mohammed Azara fsi also warned against vandalism, rumours and unauthorized use of the social media by men and officers of the Force as well as inappropriate uniform by Hunters and vigilante groups.
Also speaking, the Paramount Ruler of Etinan Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty Edidem Aniefiok Monday Akpanobong commended the new Commissioner of Police for intelligently leading the Force in Akwa Ibom State.
The Royal Father described him as one whose only business is security and assured him of the support of the traditional institution in maintaining the status of Akwa Ibom as the most peaceful state in the federation.
In his response, the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area who was presented with an Award of Leadership in Police-Civil Relationship applauded men and officers of the Force in Etinan Division saying they have performed well despite the many obstacles.
“Let me at this juncture commend the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Etinan Division, CSP Mfon Emem for her community approach to crime fighting which has yielded positive results since she was posted to Etinan Division.
“Their commitment to excellent policing , notwithstanding the many obstacles, is highly commendable and appreciated. This zeal by members of the Police Force in Etinan Division will go a long way in actualizing our dream of making Etinan a destination of choice” The Council boss stressed.
The Chairman used the opportunity to call for the establishment of more police posts in Etinan to help check border crimes as the local government is boarded by Abak, Uyo, Nsit Ibom, Mkpat Enin and ONNA Local government areas.
“We also appeal for an increase in the number of police posts in the local government as well as massive postings of men and officers to Etinan during your tenure”
He assured the Commissioner of Police that his administration is open to collaboration with the force in the task of making Etinan peaceful and we’ll secured for sustainable development.
The visit of the Commissioner of Police was witnessed by the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon Imaobong Michael, the representative of Etinan State Constituency, Hon Uduak Obong Ekpo-Ufot, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon Ekerete Umoh, Secretary of Council Hon Idorenyin Udo, Chief of Staff to the Chairman Pastor Ubong Inyang and the Press Secretary to the Chairman, Pastor Otobong Nsekpong.
Others were the Paramount Ruler of Etinan Local Government Area, HRM Edidem Aniefiok Monday Akpanobong and members of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, Councilors, Supervisors as well as the Head of Service of the Local Government, Mrs Mercy Ntekim, Director of Administration Dr. Isaac Udoka.
In the commissioner of Police’s entourage were ACP Administration, Asuquo Ebong, ACP Joseph Udo, ACP Ernest Eze, CSP Tijani Musbau CSP Umar Faruok, CSP Akaniyene Akpan, DSP Timfon John and the DPO, Etinan Division, CSP Mfon Emem.
